8th Pay Commission: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Modi, has approved the tenure of the 8th Central Pay Commission. Following the meeting, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav held a press conference and stated, "The Prime Minister has approved the structure, tenure, and timeframe of the 8th Central Pay Commission. This is a very important decision. The Commission's recommendations will cover approximately 5 million central government employees, including defense service personnel, and approximately 6.9 million pensioners."

The 8th Pay Commission will consist of a Chairperson, a part-time Member, and a Member-Secretary.
The 8th Central Pay Commission will function as a temporary body consisting of a Chairperson, a part-time Member, and a Member-Secretary. The Commission has been mandated to submit its recommendations within 18 months from the date of its constitution and may also submit interim reports on specific matters, if necessary. In formulating its recommendations, the Commission will take into account the prevailing economic conditions in the country and the need for fiscal prudence.
8th Pay Commission report expected within 18 months
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, addressing a cabinet briefing, said, "As you know, in-principle approval for the formation of the 8th Central Pay Commission was recently given in January, and the Commission has been formally constituted within a very short time. This is a major step that required extensive consultations. Several ministries, such as Defence, Home, Railways, and the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), which have a large number of central government employees, were part of this process." He further said, "The central government has approximately 5 million employees, and consultations were also held with several state governments, most of which extended their cooperation. The 8th Pay Commission is expected to submit its report within 18 months."
The recommendations of the Pay Commissions are implemented every 10 years.

Fertilizer subsidy of Rs. 38,000 crore to farmers
The Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved a subsidy of Rs. 37,952 crore on phosphorus and potash (P&K) fertilizers for the current 2025-26 Rabi season. The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved subsidy rates of ₹43.02 per kg for nitrogen (N), ₹47.96 per kg for phosphorus (P), ₹2.38 per kg for potash (K), and ₹2.87 per kg for sulfur (S) for the current Rabi season.
