New app by IRCTC: How to use SwaRail to book ticket

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation ( IRCTC) has launched its new ticket booking app called ‘SwaRail’ for both Android and iOS devices. This app apart from booking tickets can also be used by consumers for train planning journeys, train tracking, PNR status checks, food ordering, and much more. The SwaRail app has been developed in India by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS).

How to book railway tickets on the SwaRail app by IRCTC?
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to book railway ticket on the SwaRail app by IRCTC:

Step 1: Download the app and login using your IRCTC credentials. Note that the ID and password used for login to the IRCTC old app can be used here as well for login. If you don’t have an IRCTC account then create one.

Step 2: Once logged in, you will see three options in the ‘Journey Planner’ column- ‘Reserved’, ‘Unreserved’ and 'Platform’. In this example we will click on ‘Reserved’.

Step 3: You have to input the source station’s name and then destination railway station and then type the departure date, class, quota, etc. Click ‘Search’ when done. A new page will appear and it will show the list of all trains which run on this route based on the date you gave. Select the class of the coach of the train of your choice and then another webpage opens.

Step 4: On this page you will need to select the boarding station which by default will be the source railway station and then you need to select the passenger who would be travelling on the train. Then you need to give the contact details of this passenger. The e-ticket will be sent to both your IRCTC registered email ID and phone number. You can also give your GST number if it's a business booking. Click on ‘Review Journey Details’ once you are done.

Step 5: A new page opens and it will show you the final check before payment is made. In this page, you can see the train name, time of journey, your name and the fare. There is also another button just below the fare called ‘Fare Breakup’. Once all details have been verified fill up the captcha by using the ‘Enter Captcha’ button and then click on ‘Book Now’. You can use your R-Wallet from the UTS unreserved ticket app of IRCTC or UPI or credit or debit cards or net-banking.

IRCTC said on the SwaRail app: “Convenience fee (including GST) is applicable as follows:
UPI: Rs 23.6, Non-UPI: Rs 35.4.”

Step 6: To view the tickets click on the “My Bookings” button on the homepage of the SwaRail app. Click on the respective booking and select ‘View Details’. A new page opens and here you can click on the small PDF icon to see the booking details, or the letter icon to trigger the sending of this ticket to your email address or simply click on the share icon to share the ticket details with your friends or relatives.

  • Plan and Book Tickets: Effortlessly plan journeys, search for trains, and book reserved or unreserved tickets through the app. This consolidation reduces the need for multiple platforms, streamlining the booking process.
  • My- Bookings: This functionality enables the users to check the details and history information of both booked and canceled tickets (unreserved and reserved) at the same platform. User interface presents the filtering functionality as per user’s preference based on duration and transaction type.
  • You: This functionality enables users to view profile details and edit if needed. Also shows status of profile completion. Gives access for changing password, enabling/disabling biometric. Users can also verify email, edit their name (can be done only once) and delete accounts. These options are available under My Account Tab. Users can also add money to his R-wallet.
  • Real-time Train Tracking: Track your train in real-time with live updates on delays, expected arrival times, and other critical information, keeping you informed and helping you adjust your plans.
  • Coach Position Finder: Locate your coach’s position on the platform easily, making the boarding process smoother and more convenient.
  • Order Food on the Go: Place food orders from partner vendors while on board, ensuring fresh and timely meals during your journey.
  • Rail Madad: Use the Rail Madad feature to raise and track complaints or feedback directly with Indian Railways for quick resolution.
  • Refund Requests: Simplify the process of requesting refunds for canceled or missed journeys through the app.
  • Multilingual Support: Access the app in multiple languages, catering to India’s diverse population and enhancing accessibility.
  • R-Wallet Integration: Utilize R-Wallet, a digital wallet integrated into the app, for secure and convenient payments for various services.
