Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The state Congress leaders on Monday have praised the strict step taken by the Supreme Court against minister Vijay Shah.
The Supreme Court pulled up minister Shah for his remarks on Colonel Sofiya Qureshi. Terming the minister's remarks as "filthy, crass and shameful", the court rejected Shah's public apology, calling it insincere.
Talking to media persons here, Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar said, "I welcome the decision of the Supreme Court. I can say that it is a move of Apex Court in army's honour. But the BJP government, be it the central government or the state government, did not wake up.
The Court did, but they didn't.” And he added, “Supreme Court said that the minister's remark is not worthy of apology, but the BJP feels that it is worthy of apology, and that is why the state government hasn't asked for the resignation of the minister yet."
State party president Jitu Patwari said, "When it comes to nationalism and respect for the army, BJP makes big claims. But when their own minister insults a brave woman of Indian army, their silence exposes the hollowness of their nationalism”.
