In a major development triggered by escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians, scheduled for May 11 in Dharamshala, has been relocated to Ahmedabad. The decision comes in the wake of India’s recent military action against terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under Operation Sindoor.
BCCI Acts Amid Rising Border ThreatThe Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken this precautionary measure to ensure player and spectator safety, following intelligence reports suggesting the possibility of retaliatory action from across the border. Dharamshala, located just 150 km from the international border, has become a sensitive zone, leading to the closure of nearby airports and cancellation of civil flights.
Match Shift Confirmed by Gujarat Cricket AssociationGujarat Cricket Association Secretary Anil Patel confirmed the venue change, stating:
Dharamshala Still Hosting May 8 Match“The match between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians will now be played in Ahmedabad instead of Dharamshala.”
There were earlier discussions about possibly shifting the match to Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium, but the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, home to Gujarat Titans, was ultimately chosen.
Despite the heightened security situation, the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals on May 8 at Dharamshala will proceed as planned. The government and BCCI are monitoring the situation closely, and any further decisions will be taken based on security inputs.
