Indian boxing icon Mary Kom has confirmed her legal divorce from her husband, Karung Onkholer, in an official statement released on April 30, 2025. The announcement follows growing rumours linking Mary Kom to her business associate Hitesh Choudhary and other baseless speculations regarding her personal life.
In the statement issued by her advocate, Mary Kom clarified that she and Onkholer had finalized their divorce on December 20, 2023, under KOM CUSTOMARY LAW, in the presence of family members and clan leaders. She emphasized that the separation was mutual and had been in effect for nearly two years.
Mary Kom vehemently denied the claims of an extramarital affair with Hitesh Choudhary or with the husband of another boxer, urging media outlets to refrain from spreading false narratives. She also expressed her desire for privacy during this challenging time and requested that her personal life not be subjected to public scrutiny.
The statement further urged the media to respect her privacy, warning of potential legal action against anyone violating her rights, including defamation and privacy breaches. The official communication followed a press conference in Manipur where Mary Kom had already addressed the issue.
Mary Kom's public plea aims to put an end to the ongoing speculation and to allow her to navigate her personal challenges without unnecessary public intrusion.
