At least nine people were killed and more than 15 injured when a 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan last night, according to Ajmal Darwaish, spokesman for the regional health department.
The earthquake struck the east of the country near the Pakistan border at 11.47pm local time (8.17pm UK time) on Sunday, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said.
The quake reportedly shook buildings from Kabul to Pakistan's capital Islamabad around 370 kilometres away for several seconds. There was a second earthquake in the same province about 20 minutes later, with a magnitude of 4.5 and a depth of 10km (6.2 miles). This was later followed by a 5.2 earthquake at the same depth.
