Sam Thompson has left fans convinced he is about to have a very awkward run in with his ex Zara McDermott's new man. Sam, 32, and Zara, 28, shocked fans earlier this year by calling it quits.

However, Zara has quickly moved on and is now an item with former star Louis Tomlinson. And Sam is readying himself for an awkward moment with the singer as the pair line up for this year's Soccer Aid contest in Manchester.

Despite coming close to each other on the pitch, Sam has now seemingly hinted there will be an even more tricky situation in the buildup to the charity event in June.

Sam was speaking to best pal on their Staying Relevant podcast when his bleeped out actions got fans talking. The duo teased that Sam is set for an uncomfortable moment in the new future.

Speaking to the listeners, Pete said: "I'm going to tell this story because I think it's the time..." Sam quickly replied: "Go on, what is it?"

Pete then added: "Sam was told that he has to work on..." however, the next part of the sentence was cut from the recording. It left fans guessing at what Pete could have been talking about.

However, the duo were seen covering the faces while laughing. Pete was in tears as he found the situation hilarious, while Sam sat red-faced.

Fans were quick to speculate that what was said must have been about Louis and his relationship with Zara. One user wrote: "He has to interview Louis Tomlinson on ." They added a number of laughing face emojis.

Another questioned: "Soccer Aid with Louis??," while a third said it must have been funny as they'd never seen Pete react like that before.

Last week Sam broke his silence about his ex's latest relationship. As he launched a 260mile endurance challenge for Unicef, Sam told the how he’d heard that Louis was a “great bloke.”

He said: “I’ve never met Louis, but the moment I see him, I’ll be like, ‘mate, how amazing is this what we’re doing, and hopefully we can make as much money as possible’. And I imagine - from what I hear is a really lovely bloke - I imagine the reply will be exactly the same.”

Sam, who split from Zara four months ago and of fame, added of the Soccer Aid experience: “It’s a charity football game and everyone will have a smile on their face....everybody is doing it for a cause that is far beyond relationships and who’s hooking up with who and all that kind of stuff. brings everyone together.”

Sam's charity endurance challenge will see him transport thefor UNICEF match ball from last year’s stadium - Stamford Bridge in London - 260 miles to the home of this year’s match at Old Trafford in Manchester.
