UEFA are set to launch a probe after an Atletico Madrid staff member was allegedly caught on camera spitting towards Liverpool fans. The incident occurred during the fiery conclusion of Wednesday evening's Champions League match at Anfield.
The drama was ignited by Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, who scored a last-minute goal in injury time, securing a 3-2 victory for his team after they had lost a two-goal lead to the visitors with just nine minutes left on the clock.
Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone found himself in a heated exchange with a fan in the Main Stand, reacting furiously to a barrage of abuse he claimed had been relentless throughout the match.
Simeone, who was subsequently shown the red card by referee Maurizio Mariani, had to be restrained by several stewards and members of his own staff.

A video clip shared on social media by a fan in the lower Main Stand appears to show one Atletico staff member seemingly spitting towards a group of fans closest to the incident, reports the Liverpool Echo.
UEFA are now contemplating whether to delve deeper into the matter, with their disciplinary board reviewing reports from the game, including those from the match delegate and referee, before deciding on any potential next steps.
Speaking after the match about his response to abuse from one Liverpool fan, Simeone said: "We are in a place where we don't have a right to reply or react, do we? It's never very good when we react as managers, is it?".

"We are the people on the stage out there and need to behave well. But we can get angry and fight back as well, managers, from the place that we are to how we are getting insulted all of the game.
"When they scored the third goal, he turned around and insulted me, when I turned around, I am a person and I'm human."
