Team India is ready to make its return to ODI cricket after the Champions Trophy 2025, with the first match of the three-match series against Australia scheduled to be played in Perth. This series marks the beginning of a new chapter in India’s 50-over journey under new ODI captain Shubman Gill.
The big news for fans is that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are all set to make their comeback to international cricket after nearly seven months. Both senior batters are expected to feature in the playing XI for the opening match.
Team India’s possible playing XI
With Shubman Gill leading the side and Shreyas Iyer as the vice-captain, the team management will aim to strike a balance between experience and youth. Rohit Sharma and Gill are expected to open the innings, while Virat Kohli is likely to bat at number three. Shreyas Iyer could follow at number four, providing stability in the middle order.
KL Rahul is expected to take up wicketkeeping duties, similar to his role during the Champions Trophy. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Axar Patel are likely to feature as all-rounders, adding depth to both batting and bowling. Among the bowlers, Kuldeep Yadav could be India’s go-to spinner, while Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh are expected to handle the pace attack.
Australia’s challenge under Marsh
The Australian team, led by Mitchell Marsh, will look to make the most of home conditions. However, the team has suffered a major blow with Cameron Green ruled out due to injury. Marnus Labuschagne has been called up as his replacement. Despite this setback, the Aussies remain a formidable opponent, especially on home soil.
