Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, popularly known as Mr. Perfectionist, has delivered numerous iconic performances over the years. As he prepares for the release of his upcoming film Sitare Zameen Par in June, two of his older projects have once again captured public attention. One is the classic film Lagaan, while the other is the emotionally charged Rang De Basanti.
Recently, the official Oscar Instagram account surprised fans by sharing a nostalgic video clip from Aamir Khan’s critically acclaimed 2001 film Lagaan. The song featured in the clip was the popular track "Radha Kaise Na Jale", which once mesmerized audiences across the globe. This post sparked a wave of appreciation from fans who fondly recalled the film’s cultural impact.
Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, Lagaan is a period sports drama set during British colonial rule in India. The film was India’s official entry to the Academy Awards in 2002 and earned a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film, putting Indian cinema on the global map. Featuring Aamir Khan in the lead along with Gracy Singh, Lagaan is considered one of Bollywood's most significant films, both in terms of storytelling and its technical brilliance.
The clip shared by the Oscars has rekindled love for the film’s music, which was composed by A.R. Rahman. “Radha Kaise Na Jale,” in particular, continues to hold emotional value for fans due to its blend of Indian classical melodies and poignant lyrics.
Meanwhile, Aamir Khan recently reflected on another one of his powerful performances from the film Rang De Basanti, which released in 2006. In a candid conversation with entrepreneur and podcaster Raj Shamani, Aamir spoke about a particular emotional scene in the movie that continues to resonate with audiences even today.
He shared that the scene involved his character experiencing deep emotional turmoil while trying to maintain composure during a meal. The challenge, he revealed, was in portraying intense emotion in a subtle and realistic manner. “I had prepared deeply for that scene and was mentally ready to perform it in one go,” Aamir said. However, when he arrived on set, he was informed that the scene had been postponed to a later date, disrupting his emotional buildup.
Eventually, the scene was shot and received widespread acclaim from viewers and critics alike. Yet, Aamir confessed that he wasn’t personally satisfied with his performance. “People liked the scene, but for me, it didn’t come out the way I had envisioned it,” he admitted. This insight once again highlighted his dedication to his craft and his constant pursuit of perfection.
Rang De Basanti, directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, is known for its socially relevant themes and powerful ensemble cast. Aamir’s portrayal of DJ, a carefree youth transformed by tragedy, remains one of his most memorable performances.
As the actor gears up for his next film, fans are once again revisiting his earlier work and appreciating the passion and effort he has consistently put into his roles. With classics like Lagaan and Rang De Basanti continuing to inspire new generations, Aamir Khan's legacy as a transformative actor in Indian cinema remains firmly intact.
