British Gas customers are being urged to charge their mobile phones and other electronic devices during a two-hour window to make big savings on their energy bills.
The major energy supplier is holding a "Green Flex" event on Friday, September 12, which will allow its PeakSave customers to enjoy half price electricity between 11am and 1pm. The event is being run thanks to windy and sunny conditions which have resulted in more renewable energy being available. During the two-hour window, eligible customers can opt in to take part and will benefit from 50% off their bills so it's a good opportunity to tackle jobs such as charging electronic devices, cooking lunch, doing the washing, or simply catching up on some TV. Eligible customers will receive an email from British Gas to opt into the event and take part, and all savings will appear as a credit on their energy bill.
Green Flex events come in addition to the supplier's usual PeakSave Sunday scheme which offers new and existing customers with a smart meter half price electricity every Sunday between 11am and 4pm on any of their tariffs.
This scheme is open to all customers - no matter what tariff you're on - and by joining you'll get 50% cheaper electricity every Sunday between these five hours.
So if you miss the Green Flex event this afternoon, you'll have another chance to save money on Sunday, September 14, during a five-hour window from 11am to 4pm. The Sunday events don't require opting in as costumes will automatically be included every week after signing up to PeakSave.
British Gas tends to run two to three PeakSave Green Flex events per month, each lasting two hours, so customers can expect more opportunities to save money in September and in October.
PeakSave was launched to reward customers for better energy usage, supporting a greener energy supply, and so far, British Gas has paid more than £30 million to over 1 million customers taking part in the scheme.
PeakSave customers can benefit from half price electricity and take part in Green Flex events on any British Gas tariff and the supplier has now launched its Super Sunday Tariff, which is currently the cheapest fixed tariff available from a large energy supplier.
The Super Sunday Tariff allows existing customers with a smart meter to unlock further savings, with extended half-price electricity on Sundays between 9am and 5pm, if they switch to the tariff.
British Gas customers can book their free smart meter installation with half hourly data and take part in Green Flex events by signing up online.
