A travel influencer gave a scathing review of after an awful visit last year that made him never want to return. The Irish content creator, who goes by username @therealagnew__, warned viewers that he would never set foot in the town again after an expensive, pushy and unwelcoming experience.

In his video, which has amassed more than 760,000 views, he complained about pushy shopkeepers with "extortionate" prices in Marmaris, Turkey, who left him feeling guilty for not purchasing anything. He said: "Cocktails, drinks, the price of food, everything in price has gone up. It's extortionate, it's actually more expensive than parts of central Spain. The price of Turkey has gone up big time. I'm telling you I will never return, the people are pushy, they push you into buying stuff, they make you feel bad."

The content creator concluded: "Honestly, Marmaris for me is a no-go. Never again."

There was a stark divide in response to the video, with some reporting a similar experience, while others denied the presence of pushy shopkeepers and argued it was still cheaper than the UK.

One visitor responded: "Here now! Sick of being harassed & paid £52 for 2 kebabs last night. Soooo expensive!"

Although others couldn't understand the frustration, with one replying: "£2.50-£3.50 a pint and £20 for a 3 course meal what are people crying about. I find them quite friendly. You do get the odd pushy person but you just politely say no and walk on by."

Another traveller added: "I go to every year alone (female), I have never been harassed. Of course shop keepers give it the 'come in my shop...' but a simple no thank you and keep walking stops that."

According to Numbeo, a crowdsourced cost-of-living database, half a litre of local costs the equivalent of £3.46, while a cappuccino costs £2.20.

A three-course meal for two at a mid-range restaurant was estimated at £31.80.
