's Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has branded a missile strike by as an "act of war", with his govenment claiming at least 31 people were killed, including a child hit when a mosque was struck, and vowed to retaliate. Meanwhile Lt General Ahmed Sharif, no relation, the military's spokesperson, said 26 died in missile attacks and another five in artillery strikes along the Line of Control. He claimed Pakistani forces returned fire and destroyed several Indian posts. Indian police and medics said at least seven civilians were killed and 30 others injured in Pakistani shelling. Strikes reportedly hit areas in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and eastern Punjab province.

He warned: "," and vowed not to let India's "nefarious objectives" succeed. India's Defence Ministry said the strikes targeted sites used to plan terrorist attacks. The violence broke out just as Downing Street announced a £4.8 billion trade deal with India. President Trump said he hoped the conflict would end "very quickly."
