Weeds seem to pop up everywhere in the garden during summer and can be really unmanageable by August, but there is a really simple way to get rid of them for good. Killing weeds can be tricky as chemical products can harm any surrounding plants or grass, while many natural remedies only scorch the leaves without harming the roots.
However, the experts at Pavemaster Drivewayshas shared there is a solution to eliminate weeds and stop them growing back by suffocating them with mulch. They said: "You can lay down a layer of mulch or install fabric across your driveway to prevent seeds from germinating. This works particularly well on gravel driveways, where the barrier stops sunlight from reaching the soil and prevents weed growth."

Mulching is the practice of covering the soil around plants with organic matter, usually to improve soil health and protect it from the weather. However, mulch is also highly effective at killing weeds, as it blocks their access to air and sunlight, weakening them until they die.
What makes mulching especially useful is that it can be used almost anywhere in the garden, no matter if you are dealing with weeds in flowerbeds, on driveways, patios, or even on your lawn.
Weeds typically thrive in nutrient-rich areas with plenty of sunlight, but mulch naturally cuts off their light and improves soil structure, helping to prevent them from growing back for good.
How to use mulch to keep summer weeds awayMulching can kill existing weeds, but it is often more effective if the area is cleared first. One of the simplest ways to remove weeds is using boiling water, but if you prefer to smother them with mulch, then that will work well too.
The expert said: "Pouring boiling water directly onto weeds is an effective way to kill them instantly. The heat destroys the plant cells, causing the weeds to wilt and die within a few hours."
Then, simply apply a thick layer, around 10 centimetres, over the area to prevent weeds growing back. Make sure to leave a gap around the base of plants you wish to keep, as mulch retains a lot of water and can rot plants if it is touching their foliage.
If you are mulching a lawn or a vegetable patch, it tends to be best to use grass clippings. Useshredded leaves or bark for flowerbeds, then stones or wood chips for driveways.
Be careful and make sure to select the right mulch for a area, as heavier ones bark or wood chips will kill grass rather than just target weeds.
However, if you choose the proper mulch, it will keep weeds away for good so you do hate to waste more time pulling up these pesky plants this summer.
