Agartala: In a joint operation, the GRP and the RPF apprehended two women from Bihar at Agartala railway station on Tuesday, allegedly attempting to smuggle 22.405 kg of dry cannabis to Punjab.
Security personnel found the contraband packed in six packets, concealed inside two pit bags and a trolley bag, said Tapas Das, officer-in-charge of GRP Agartala.
The arrested women -- identified as Manju Devi (45) from Lakshmisharai district and Rachana Devi (36) from Bhagalpur district -- had reportedly used trains from Agartala on multiple occasions to transport narcotics.
"Preliminary investigation suggests the contraband was destined for Punjab, where it could fetch nearly Rs 4.5 lakh in the black market," Das said, adding that a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Agartala GRP police station.
