NEW DELHI: Nishant Kumar, son of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar , once again came out strongly in support of his father, dismissing any concerns about his health and declaring his confidence in the chief minister's ability to lead the state for another full term. Speaking to reporters, Nishant appealed to voters to back the NDA alliance and expressed hope that Nitish Kumar would continue at the helm.
"My father is healthy and fully capable of leading the state for the next five years," Nishant said. “He has dedicated the last two decades to the development of Bihar across all sectors, including education and healthcare.” He urged NDA workers to remind the public of the progress made since 2005 and encourage support for the Janata Dal (United)-BJP alliance.
Nishant also called RJD leader and former Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav his "younger brother.”
Nishant went on to say that voters should be shown clear, data-driven evidence of the state’s progress under Nitish’s leadership. "We need to tell people what Bihar was like before 2000, what it became in 2005, and how much has changed now,” he said. “People should be made aware through facts and figures.”
This isn't the first time that Nishant has dismissed rumours about his father's health earlier, speaking to the media, he said, “It is an appeal to Bihar's public to give a majority (to JDU) more than what they gave in 2010. Nitish Kumar will undoubtedly become the CM.”
Echoing the sentiment, Bihar deputy chief minister Samrat Chaudhary stated, “There is no challenge. Even if the entire UPA and the entire INDI alliance fight, Nitish Kumar will remain the Chief Minister of Bihar.”
These remarks come in the wake of a Congress-RJD strategy meeting at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence in New Delhi. Kharge remarked,
“Bihar will be freed from the BJP and its opportunistic alliance.” He added, “Youth, farmers-labourers, women, backwards, extremely backward and people of all other sections of the society want the Mahagathbandhan government.”
Assembbly elections in Bihar are scheduled for later this year.
