NEW DELHI: Indian warship INS Trikand provided urgent medical assistance to a Pakistan crew member of an Iranian fishing vessel operating off the Oman coast.
The crew member had suffered fractres and severe hand injuries, resulting in heavy blood loss, while working on the vessel's engine.
The injured person had been shifted to another dhow Abdul Rehman Hanzia, en route to Iran. "INS Trikand immediately altered her course to reach the dhow. The warship's doctor, with a medical team of commandos, boarded the vessel," an officer said.
"After providing local anaesthesia, the medical team performed suturing and splinting on the fingers in a three hours procedure. Bleeding was controlled, preventing permanent loss of the injured fingers due to gangrene. Medicines were given."
