In 2018, the entire team Hurricanes were struggling, when Brind’Amour took over the charges as coach. The Hurricanes had failed to reach the playoffs for almost ten seasons. But he demanded accountability. No shortcuts. No excuses. The players learned promptly that lazy performance instruments meant automatic bench time.

Culture of Hard Work

Brind'Amour shares a basic principle with his players which states that they need to exceed their opponents' efforts. Practices are intense. Fitness is non-negotiable. The result? The hockey team works harder than its opponents while remaining resistant to defeat. Under his highly challenging yet helpful coaching method Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov managed to flourish.

Building Trust

His players respect Brind’Amour because of his time spent as an athlete. He understands the grind. He listens. He’s honest. Team members trust each other to the extent that they have become a close-knit group of athletes. Team-focused attitudes have completely replaced selfish team member egotism.

Winning Results

The transformation is undeniable. Playoff appearances in five of his six seasons. The Hurricanes expect to compete for the Stanley Cup Final championship in 2024. The Hurricane organization secures its position as a constant Cup challenger. Brind'Amour has used his leadership skills to rebuild Carolina hockey as a whole beyond simple game success.
